Alla Carta is a bi-annual international publication that approaches high-end fashion, art and design in a unique Italian way. We truly believe in paper, carta in Italian. At a time when the web may appear to be the only valid avenue of communication, Alla Carta is an ode to the most precious of mediums and to the most precious moment of the day: our interviews always take place around a table, to celebrate one of the oldest Italian habits, conviviality.
Issue 26: You Are A Myth
The term "idol" has ancient origins, linked to religious devotion. Over time, however, the concept has changed: veneration has shifted from the divine to people or symbols that represent collective ideals and desires. The cult of the supernatural has been replaced by that of earthly idols, human and accessible figures.
In 1993, the Italian pop group 883 sang "You are a myth", defining the idol as someone unattainable. Today, however, the cult of contemporary idols is measured in followers, likes and views, and fame, once a consequence of talent, has become an end in itself.
The legend has been humanized, losing its mythical aura and fueling the illusion that fame is within everyone's reach. The contemporary idol is an ordinary person who reflects people's aspirations, desires and sometimes disappointments. In an era dominated by consumption and the constant search for new trends, we create and consume idols as seasonal products.
