“I wanted this book to be as much an object as a collection of writing, a celebration of the tactile, receding world of print with the graphics of old dead magazines, myriad typefaces and the messy transcripts of interviews.” - Nelson George
The Nelson George Mixtape is an anthology that gathers together articles by George from 1978–1993. Early articles for Record World and the Village Voice chronicle the birth of hip hop in New York City, leading to features on some of the biggest names in music, including Marvin Gaye, Michael Jackson, and Quincy Jones. The publication presents many reproductions of out of print articles, unpublished interviews with Bob Marley and James Jamerson, and early pieces on Whitney Houston and Prince.
