Naware #1 - The Phillipines

Naware is a compilation of stories, moments and visuals that explores the relationship between design, culture and the environment in selected destinations.

The magazine takes its name from the Japanese expression 'Mono no Aware', the realisation that there is beauty in impermanence, especially when it comes to natural phenomena. Through interviews, photographic essays and graphic explorations, the magazine encourages readers to re-examine their relationship with nature and reflect on the role of design and art in creating a more environmentally-conscious world.

This first issue of NAWARE explores the relationship between people and nature in The Philippines through a curated series of interviews, photo essays and articles. Filipinos' interconnectedness with the ocean has produced a unique set of aesthetic mentalities, sustainable practices and house-making traditions that constitute the backbone of national design today.
