Exploring the intersection of typography, language, and power, each issue of Amalgam brings together an impressive selection of new and archive writing along a design-orientated theme. It’s edited, designed and published by Pouya Ahmadi, an Iranian-American designer teaching at Rhode Island School of Design.
Issue five is built around Alienation. A poem-like story balances a second generation immigrant’s reflection on their parents attitude to their new home country with an analysis of the use of punctuation to define their newly assigned nationality. With many more pages than previous issues, this one is packed with similarly fascinating pieces linking art and design with the big issues facing our world.
