Having studied at Glasgow School of Art Eliza Southwood discovered drawing and decided to change career path to become a full time artist and illustrator. She has developed a powerful connection with the world of cycling and her images communicate a close acquaintance with the rich history of that sport—this particular print captures the duels fought by riders participating in an ‘échappé’ (a breakaway group) at the front of the peloton. Who will manage to get away? Which rider will exhaust himself first while trying to get away from the others? Who is playing safe, bidding his time, before the final sprint?
