Evergreen Fantasies: An Unofficial Celebration of Art Inspired by The Simpsons
Few things in popular culture have embedded themselves into the creative imagination quite like The Simpsons. Over three decades on air, Homer, Bart, Marge, Lisa and Maggie have inspired not just imitation but genuine artistic reinvention — across mediums, across generations, across the globe. Evergreen Fantasies gathers the evidence.
Compiled, edited and designed by Ben Gore — experimental artist, bootleg toy enthusiast and founder of Folkestone-based independent arts publisher Blue Monday Press — the book brings together more than 40 artists from around the world, each working from the same starting block: the town of Springfield and the characters that inhabit it.
What they do with that starting block couldn't be more varied. Across 100+ pages, the reader moves through claymation and acrylic painting, needle felting and stained glass, pixel art and ceramics, handmade action figures, embroidery, collage, tattooing, sculpture and mixed media. There are even meticulous 3D architectural reconstructions of Flaming Moe's and the First Church of Springfield.
The book is deliberately light on text — an introduction sets the scene, brief artist credits provide context, and then the work takes over, giving every contributor equal footing regardless of their profile or medium.
The result is as much a celebration of making as it is of Matt Groening's universe: a reminder that the impulse to respond creatively to something you love — to repurpose it, rebuild it, honour it through craft — is itself a kind of art.
Contributing artists include Ricardo Cavolo, Lee Hardcastle, Obvious Plant, Jack Teagle, The Sucklord, Dr.Me, Kalah Ingle Ceramics, Death by Toys, Geléeregen, Listen04, and dozens more working at every level of recognition. The book was sponsored by DKE Toys.
