roughcast #2

roughcast is a periodical that puts the experience of the freelance contributors first. Focusing on the freelancer experience, we cover art, photography, film, music and sociological writing. Each edition presents responses around a theme, weaving them into a colourful tapestry of off-beat culture.

roughcast volume 2 –– the ‘DIY issue’ –– is out now. We have donated £1 for every mag printed to Medical Aid for Palestinians.

Selected highlights include…

A dispatch from the DIY clubbing scene in Manchester, by Martin Guttridge-Hewitt // The history of grime, by Felicity Martin // My friend, Bob Marley, by Dennis Morris // Notes on gender and society, by punk poet Jay Mitra // A letter from the anarcho-punk underground, by Josh Eustace // An adventure at a DIY rave, by Simon Doherty // A love letter to Rowans in Finsbury Park, by Lucy Silverman // Coffee and culture wars, with Jon Ronson // 40 years since the miner’s strike, by Jacob Grattage // Work from political artists Darren Cullen and Pattern Up // Photography by El Hogg and Jonny Kaye // Music reviews (by Martin Guttridge-Hewitt) // Film review (by Nick Fore)
