Girls Like Us Magazine Issue 15 - The Vortex

Girls Like Us is an independent magazine turning the spotlight on an international expanding community of women and transpeople within arts, culture and activism. Through personal stories, essays and vanguard visuals GIRLS LIKE US unfolds feminist legacies in arts and writing. Mixing politics with pleasure, the magazine is mapping collaborative routes towards a non-patriarchy.

This issue is a collaboration with Brussels based Mothers and Daughters – a lesbian & trans bar. After eight years of operating as a community project for trans and lesbian people in Brussels and around, Mothers & Daughters – A Lesbian and Trans Bar is wrapping up. In preparing for this chapter to close, and thinking of the futures that will open, Mothers & Daughters has created a collective publication in collaboration with Girls Like Us, called THE VORTEX.

It brings together new writing, conversations and visual works from the M&D family and allies. It’s our hope that the publication serves as a celebration of Mothers & Daughters, an honouring of those who came before and those who joined us, a vessel for some of our thoughts, an outline of our wild vortex and a gathering place for resources for future trans and lesbian organising in Brussels and beyond.
