Oh Comely #43

Oh Comely is a culture and lifestyle magazine based in the British isles.

Oh Comely is a curious, honest and playful independent magazine. It’s a place to meet strangers, hear their stories and look at life differently – where our readers are our writers and our models, too.

Each issue they pick a theme and see where it takes them.... try something old, something new and something that scares us a bit. Then they present our findings in a beautiful, art-book style, putting new writing, photography and illustration talent at the heart of it.

They believe good things come in threes and began as the bedroom project of three pals at university and they’re now produced by a small publishing house started by another set of three friends.

Issue 43

Their midsummer issue is all about Identity.

And, as we're in the era of the selfie, we thought we'd invite five different artists to create self portraits especially for us.

The results are endlessly fascinating and touch on topics from religion and society to simply playing dress up. Elsewhere, we explore ideas about gender and stereotype through clothing, writers tell us the lessons they learnt from their make-up routines, we uncover the lists that made up a life and discover novels that were written in cafes.

They also chat to actress Alisha Boe on the subjects of sexual assault and victim blaming, poet Hollie McNish about turning 30, and ask Lily Vanilli to bake us a floral fantasy of cake.

Couldn’t be a better model to cover “The Love Issue” than Baptiste Radufe in Dior Homme.
