Morandi's Objects

Joel Meyerowitz (Photographer, Author)

For two days in the Spring of 2015, photographer Joel Meyerowitz documented Giorgio Morandi's entire collection of objects, some 260 bottles, flasks, vases, boxes and other items collected over the painter's lifetime. Appearing as a recurring cast in Morandi's paintings, bathed in the same light and on the same table in the same room as Morandi would have arranged them, these quotidian objects transmit a power through Meyerowitz's photography not unlike the modernist master's own images.

Morandi's Objects offers up an intimate and enthralling insight into the life and work of a man who remains mysterious to this day. Meyerowitz's poetic documentation is accompanied by essays from Maggie Barret and Meyerowitz himself.
