Hero #17

HERO #17 – DANGEROUS YOUTH

Legendary photographer Ari Marcopoulos shoots the cover of the latest HERO – DANGEROUS YOUTH, out today, celebrating a new generation rising from an uncertain climate to reclaim the future.

Inside, Marcopoulos presents a 32-page project featuring his sons Ethan and Cairo, who he has been documenting for more than twenty years; old photos appear alongside completely new images, telling the story of three lives intertwined.

Louis Vuitton x Supreme and Saint Laurent – two highly limited edition covers, with only 100 copies of each available worldwide. Featuring the FW17 collections of each house fresh from the runway, these copies are only available at Dover Street Market London and NYC, Colette and Comme Trading Museum in Paris, and IDEA books online.

Male supermodel Kit Butler stars on our Special Collectors Edition cover, complimenting the 32-page zine inside. The special issue is available globally, but in limited numbers.

Kim Jones, artistic director of men’s ready to wear at Louis Vuitton chooses filmmaker and photographer Dexter Navy to shoot one of the highlights of FW17 fashion week – the Louis Vuitton x Supreme FW17 collection. The pair are also exclusively in discussion for
the issue.

We shoot an exclusive Saint Laurent FW17 menswear story – in print just nine days after being shown on the runway in Paris, and a glimpse of Lanvin FW17.

Having kicked off in the latest issue of HEROINE, we continue our ongoing series of interviews State of the Union – current affairs through the voices of leading thinkers in their respective fields. Here that includes leading art theorist Nicolas Bourriaud, reflecting on the environment that young artists work in today; Huw Price, who in his leading role at Cambridge University works to highlight the issues artificial intelligence poses to society; and teenage drone inventor George Matus.

Photographer Paolo Zerbini travels to Poland for a story spanning HERO and HEROINE, shooting high-octane kids and their souped-up cars; we talk to actor Dacre Montgomery about becoming the new Red Power Ranger, and actor Cole Sprouse, star of hit Netflix series Riverdale, about graduating NYC and escaping the trappings of being a kid star. Artist Sue de Beer collaborates with stylist Paul Sinclaire on a dystopian vision of the future and hacker-turned-rapper YTcracker lurks in a chat room to discuss cyber authenticity on TV with fellow coder David Kennedy.

Also featuring smooth-singing musician Zak Abel and introducing young Parisian label AFTERHOMEWORKDanielle Levitt shoots a group of dirt bike riding friends in LA, and Daniel King travels to Niagara Falls to street-cast and document kids with fashion director Gro Curtis. Plus actors to watch: Joe Cole and Austin Abrams.
