Welcome to Creative Review’s Photography Annual, which this year comes with a twist. Those of you who have followed CR over the years will know our Photography Annual is usually a pay-for-entry awards scheme, which is entered by photographers and commissioners.

But this year we’ve decided to do it a bit differently – we’ve done away with the awards and instead asked a panel of people immersed in the world of photography to nominate their favourite works of the year across editorial, fashion, advertising, exhibitions, books, and personal work. The result is a document of some of the incredible work that has risen to prominence in photography this year, which will hopefully make you laugh, possibly make you cry, but will certainly make you think.
