Ever since his first collections in the 1980s, Belgian fashion designer Walter Van Beirendonck has been intrigued by masks. His personal fascination with the mask and its impact on a person's identity is reflected in the exhibition and this accompanying catalog POWERMASK in an idiosyncratic and multiple view of the phenomenon mask. He also looks at the role of the mask in the work of visual artists, photographers and fashion designers.
